Oct 03 - Rock Radio Launches Live Across Gibraltar

A brand new radio station for Gibraltar launched on Monday on 99.2 FM, DAB+ and online.

Rock Radio is the first radio station to launch in Gibraltar for more than 50 years and promises to offer a fresh new sound focused on great upbeat music coupled with local news and content that matters on the Rock.

The station kicks off the day with Good Morning Gibraltar from 8am with Neil James and Gianna Mercieca serving up the ‘biggest wake up call on the Rock’. This is followed by The Weekday Workplace with Michelle Rugeroni (a.k.a ‘The Rouge’) and Daniel Harrison presents The Home Run from 3pm.

Evenings from 7pm include the Hit 7 @ 7 with Pradeep Karnani - a unique chart show where the playlist is chosen by listeners who can vote with a thumbs up or thumbs down to every track played on Rock Radio. On The Rocks from 7:30pm promises to wind down your day with the best chilled out music.

Weekends are alive on Rock Radio with Cheryl Jeffries aka Basscake presenting WTF - What The Friday! from 7:30pm featuring the best in drum and bass plus special guest DJ’s.

The Weekend Social with Carina Capurro every Saturday and Sunday from 10am features the up and coming artists alongside the latest celebrity gossip and scandals. Re:Loaded from 6pm is a throwback to the biggest old skool anthems and Pop On The Rock on Saturdays from 9pm promises to get you on your dancing feet to some of the biggest pop remixes.

Evan Wahnon, Station Director said: “We’ve lined up a great mix of shows and presenters which we know offer something completely different to what people in Gibraltar will be use to hearing. We’d encourage everyone to make the switch to Rock Radio and let us know what they think!”

The station launched with a live roadshow on Main Street outside Parliament on Monday where Steven Linares, the Minister for Media, said it was an exciting day for Gibraltar - “There is a place for more radio stations in Gibraltar. If the other radio stations are serving a general audience, there is a niche market to concentrate like Rock Radio will on the young.”

Rock Radio is now available on 99.2 FM, Digital Radio (DAB+), online at www.rockradio.gi and via dedicated iPhone & Android mobile apps.
