Apr 08 - International Names to Perform at Gibraltar World Music Festival Third Edition

gwmfWorld renown composer and producer Nitin Sawhnet has be chosen as the main artist to perform at this year’s GWMF which is now into its third edition. Nitin will perform at St Michael’s Cave the 19th of June featuring guest performances from the extensive vocal talents of Nicki Wells and percussion skills of tabla maestro Aref Durvesh, an intimate show that the audience could see later in Womad and at the London’s Royal Albert Hall in September.

The festival will encompass fusion, ethnics and traditional themes that propose the best artists of the genre and masters of ancient instruments from both China and India. Before his concert, the audience will have the opportunity of have a taste of oriental ancient music with the performance of Guo Gan and Mieko Miyazaki. This duo was born and evolved in France of the meeting of two professional musicians (one from Japan, the other one from China) who would never have crossed had they remained in their native Far East...

Between them, the Israeli percussionist Itamar Doari will make a bridge linking both styles of music. Itamar was born in Israel 1985. He began his musical training when he was only six years old, playing traditional percussion instruments such as Frame Drums, Darbuka, Riq and more.

The internationally renowned local professional dancer and choreographer Nathan Conroy (http://www.artinmovement.net/) will also create a show based on Chinese and Indian dances. He trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance before embarking on a long diverse international career.

This year’s Festival kicked off with a China day at Cervantes Institute in Gibraltar on the 10th of February (together with Confucius Institute). The GWMF aims to become a must in the calendar of other prestigious Music and Cultural festivals and forums in the world. It has already welcomed artistic directors and founders of the Sacred Music Festival of Fes (Morocco), Babel Med (in France), founders of the Womex (World Music Exhibition), etc...

Full ticket price for the first day £30.00; for students and senior citizens £25.00. Tickets will be available at the Gibraltar Productions office (92 Irish Town), at Sacarello’s Coffee and Restaurant since 12th May and online in www.milentradas.com. All tickets include a return shuttle service to St Michael’s Cave from Public Market and Elliot’s Way at 19.00 hours.
