Nov 16 - GSD Looks Forward To Engaging With The GTA But Insists Rooke Plans Were Discussed

The GSD says it looks forward to sitting down with the GTA to talk about the issues that concern teachers, however, the party says it is “not fair to say that the GSD's plans for a Secondary Education campus was not discussed during the recent meeting with them because it was”.

The party says that it is not possible for the GSD to discuss many of the issues affecting schools and teachers in Gibraltar, including vocational training, “without discussing plans for the Rooke site” because those plans impact on, and are central to, many of those issues.

The GSD says that does not mean that the GTA agree or disagree with those plans but the party says that “no one expressed any adverse comments” to the GSD during the course of the meeting.

A statement continued: “We are disappointed that the GTA continue to use terminology used by the GSLP-Liberals to describe our Rooke plans, namely a "Mega School".  Our plans involve a Secondary Education campus and the precise model and structure (e.g. one school or two with a six form college) will be determined in consultation with the GTA and school teachers. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and it is our intention to get it absolutely right. To do that we need to sit down with all relevant stakeholders.”
