Sep 20 - GSD Concerned About Noise Disruption At Bayside

The GSD has been informed that once again classes at Bayside have been disrupted due to noise from the adjacent World Trade Centre building site.

A spokesman for the GSD said: "We understand that as many as 13 classes, affecting the maths building in particular, had to be stopped with children being told to move to the school playground to escape the noise.

"It is totally unacceptable that students should have their education interrupted in this way and that teachers should have to try and educate children in these circumstances, the Government must intervene to ensure that the construction site is operated in way that does not disturb the school.

"It is worth noting that the Government have committed to a reconstruction of Bayside within the existing footprint of the current school. This only demonstrates how difficult, if not impossible it will be for that to be delivered without years of further disruption to the education of our children as they undertake their GCSE's and A Levels.

"The GSLP/Liberal Government already has a poor track record when it comes to building projects affecting schools, it seems they have little genuine concern or regard for the impact of construction activity in close proximity to school, the GSD insists that the Government finally take the matter in hand and deal with this issue now and in the future and that our children be allowed to get on with their education in peace."
