Dec 22 - Tributes Paid To Former Governor Of Gibraltar
22 December 2017
The Government has paid tribute to the former Governor of Gibraltar, Air Chief Marshall Sir Peter Terry.
During his tenure as governor, Sir Peter authorised the SAS to pursue Provisional IRA members as part of Operation Flavius, which led to three IRA members shot down on the Rock.
A few years later, Sir Peter suffered a number of gunshot wounds in his home in Staffordshire after IRA members tried to shoot at him and wife through a window in their home.
A spokesman for Number Six said: "The Government is saddened at the news of the death of Air Chief Marshal Sir Peter Terry who was the Governor of Gibraltar from 1985 to 1989.
"We would like to express our most sincere condolences to his family and friends."
