Aug 23 - Opposition Welcomes Government Announcement to Amend Nature Protection Act

The GSD Opposition has today welcomed the Chief Minister’s insistence to both local and Spanish press that the Government is planning to amend the 1991 Nature Protection Act ‘in order to allow Spanish Fishermen to fish with nets in British Gibraltar Territorial Waters.’
Opposition Leader Daniel Feetham noted that the party has stated for well over a year, that the Nature Protection Act should be amended in order to allow regulated fishing with EU compliant nets. He added, ‘we will have no hesitation in supporting legislative amendments that accord with that policy.’
The interview in El Mundo that Mr. Feetham refers to claims that Mr. Picardo predicts an end to the fishing dispute, this autumn.
