Apr 16 - GSD Welcomes Government OHL Case Success
The GSD welcomes the news of the success in the UK court proceedings relating to the airport tunnel project. The Opposition acknowledges the notification provided by the Chief Minister to the Leader of the Opposition and Sir Peter Caruana QC, immediately before the Government’s public announcement of the favourable decision.
Given the considerable amounts involved both in terms of the liability the Government could have faced in relation to the claim made against it by the tunnel works contractor, OHL and costs, the success in the litigation is a matter which is to be welcomed by all of us in Gibraltar. The Opposition joins the Government in thanking the entire legal and technical team who have acted on behalf of the Government of Gibraltar, which has resulted in this positive judgement for all of us.
Daniel Feetham, Leader of the Opposition said, ‘All of Gibraltar can come together in welcoming the successful outcome of this litigation. It entirely vindicates the action of the previous administration in terminating the contract with OHL and we commend the current administration in its vigorous defence of those actions’.
The Opposition now trusts that the project, initiated by the GSD Government and supported by the party now in opposition as one, which is essential to Gibraltar’s future development, will progress to completion.
The Opposition will now consider the detail of Mr Justice Akenhead’s decision.
