ocean views The Opposition has congratulated the Government on the launch of the new mental health facility ‘Ocean Views’. The GSD also welcomed the ‘new approach to mental health care within an environment of healing and meaningful rehabilitation.’

The party has however raised concerns over the ‘inordinate amount of time time it is taking the Government to open the new Alzheimer & Dementia facility, at the same RNH site’. Claiming that the facility was almost completed when the GSD left office in 2011, they have criticized the Government’s ‘overspend’ that they claim has been ‘an expensive cost to the taxpayer and is a reminder of why Minister Bossano has expressed concern over failures of Ministers to control Government spending.’

Oppsotion Health Spokesperson Isobel Ellul-Hammond explained that Gibraltar suffers  ‘a desperate need to provide beds for Alzheimer and Dementia patients so that they receive the best possible bespoke care and to relieve the pressure on hospital acute beds.’ She added, ‘the patients and their families have been forced without necessity to wait another four years for this.’
