Mar 12 - Number Six: Opposition “Must Not Reduce Court Claims To Party Political Pettiness”
The Opposition must have a chip on their shoulder given the nature of their reaction to the news that another claim, this time for £27 million, has been brought against this Government for events that occurred in the time of the previous administration in relation to Waterport Terraces, according to the latest statement from the Government.
Number Six says that the Opposition have been shown to be rather hypersensitive on the subject and “have clearly misinterpreted” the Government’s statement on the facts of the case as meaning something more than what was laid out in black and white.
The simple, unarguable fact, argues the Government, is that Gibraltar is now facing two separate law suits, totalling claims of at least £34,665,738.00, in relation to housing projects commissioned by the previous GSD administration and now this Government has an obligation to the people of Gibraltar to contest these claims.
The Government says that if the Opposition instead choose to ignore the significance of these claims and “reduce the matter to their usual party-political pettiness” Gibraltar may end up paying some very expensive consequences.
