Jun 08 - Gibraltar Returns To Bermuda International Captive Conference
Albert Isola, the Minister for Financial Services, will this week lead a Gibraltar Finance team to the Bermuda Captive Conference which starts today and runs until Wednesday 10th June and is one of the premier events in Bermuda's insurance calendar. The team will be joined and supported by a number of Gibraltar insurance professionals.
Chief Executive James Tipping and Insurance Senior Executive Michael Ashton, who will be accompanying the Minister, have arranged a series of private meetings with Bermuda-based firms interested in considering Gibraltar as a potential jurisdiction for their European business.
On Thursday 11th June, Minister Isola will host a Gibraltar Day Lunch for Bermuda's insurance and financial services community at which he will address the gathering on the continued growth of this sector.
Minister Isola said: “Last year was the first time that Gibraltar Finance attended the Bermuda Captive Conference and the first time we held a Gibraltar Day Lunch in Bermuda. We set out our intentions to create a closer working relationship with Bermuda's insurance sector in the hope that Gibraltar would become, over time, a preferred domicile within the European Union for Bermuda insurance, reinsurance and captive companies that require an EU base.
“In addition to the existing Gibraltar businesses that are Bermuda linked we have made specific progress since last June in a number of areas including of course the successful application to the FSC by the Horseshoe Group which is headquartered in Bermuda, and there are ongoing discussions with further Bermuda companies about establishing operations and investing in Gibraltar. We hope this visit will serve to further strengthen the business relationships between our two Territories."
