Sep 16 - Gibraltar Archives Attend Archives And Records Association Annual Conference
Gibraltar Archivist Anthony Pitaluga and Conservation and Collections Officer Gerard Wood attended the Archives and Records Association of UK and Ireland annual conference in Dublin, Ireland.
The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Challenges, Obligations, or Imperatives? The Moral and Legal role of the record keeper today.’ The three-tier conference involved lectures and workshops on Archival Science, Conservation and Digital Preservation.
Anthony and Gerard were invited to participate in a closed forum run by the National Archives of Great Britain in Kew, London. This forum was closed to the public and exclusive to members of the National Archives organisation, and explored how the traditional Archive has had to evolve to become digitally relevant in the 21st Century.
Archivist Anthony Pitaluga said: ‘Both Gerard and I are very excited to have attended and actively participated in the conference and forum. As we consider how to modernise the Gibraltar Archives and work towards digitalising certain collections, such as the Evacuation collection, these have been fantastic opportunities to learn and share best practice with some of the UK’s leading Archivists.’
