Mar 16 - Duke Of Edinburgh Participants Aim For Silver

This weekend, a group of 34 Silver Award participants from the Open Award Centre of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Gibraltar will be travelling to a campsite located in the area of Montejaque and Cortes de La Frontera to carry out training for the Adventurous Journey Section of their programmes.

This will be their final practice camp before their Qualifier in June.  The participants will carry out activities relating to camp craft, such as putting up tents and cooking their own meals. In addition the venture focused around development of their navigation and map reading skills, during a short hike in the area.  The camp will challenge their overall fitness and navigational skills as they work towards their Qualifier in the summer.

Experienced leaders from the Open Award Centre gave up their time to supervise and train the participants throughout the weekend, and the venture proved to be a success and of great use to the participants.

The Award would like to thank the Bland Group and Toyota Stockholdings (Gibraltar) Limited for their continued support with the transportation requirements without which many of the ventures would not be possible, in addition to our several corporate sponsors.

The Award also wishes to thank all its volunteers for giving up their free time to help train and prepare the participants for this part of the programme.
