Jun 08 - Nobel Laureate To Give AmCham Lecture At University of Gibraltar

The Nobel Laureate Professor Ada E. Yonath will deliver a lecture as part of the AmCham lecture series in close collaboration with HM Government of Gibraltar and the University of Gibraltar.

Born in Jerusalem, and trained as a biochemist, Professor Ada E Yonath was the first Israeli woman to receive the Nobel Prize for her pioneering work on the structure and functions of the ribosome.

She was the first woman in the Middle East to win a Nobel Prize in the sciences, and the fourth woman to win a Nobel Chemistry Prize.

From humble beginnings she has risen to earn a high number of awards and honours, including the following: the Wolf Prize in Chemistry, the L’Oreal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science, and Israel Prize for chemistry. Today, she is the director of the Helen and Milton A. Kimmelman Centre for Biomolecular Structure and Assembly of the Weizman Institute of science.

The conference, titled ‘The Power of Ribosomes: The Influence of Scientific Developments on Daily Life’, is scheduled for Tuesday 14th June at 10:00am at The Conference Hall, University of Gibraltar.
