Jun 16 - GHA Congratulates Professor Ian Peate
The Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA) is delighted to announce that the Head of its School of Health Studies, Professor Ian Peate, has been awarded an OBE in the UK list of the Queen’s 90th Birthday Honours, 2016.
Professor Peate has been a nurse for 35 years, and has spent the last 26 teaching the nurses of the future. He continues to shape and mould students to this day. In addition, he has written and co-edited up to 32 books on nursing and written more than 475 articles.
Ian is also Editor in Chief of the ‘British Journal of Nursing’, Founding Editor ‘Journal of Paramedic Practice’, and sits on the editorial board of the ‘British Journal of Healthcare Assistants’.
Professor Peate stated: “I am honoured and humbled. The profession has so many people deserving of such an award. Having practised as an enrolled nurse and then worked my way up the ladder, this accolade is truly something I am proud of. I am passionate about nursing, as are many more nurses who would be just as worthy of such an award.”
Dr John Cortes, Minister of Health, added: “Professor Peate demonstrates real passion and commitment towards his profession. He strives towards excellence within nursing education and is unwavering. He has inspired thousands of nurses in his career to date, and is showing no signs of stopping. We are enormously proud of what he has achieved and the School of Health Studies have benefited immeasurably with him at the helm. On behalf of the GHA, I wish to extend our very best wishes to him and his family.”
