Aug 21 - Digital Asset Management And GSX Blockchain Innovation Centre Host Successful Blockchain: Back to Basics Meetup
An initiative to host an educational meetup focused on understanding blockchain technology and its history was held on Thursday 16 August at the Sunborn Hotel. The event was presented by Digital Asset Management (DAM) in partnership with the GSX Group Blockchain Innovation Centre (BIC) and sponsored by TSN Barristers & Solicitors.
Blockchain: Back to Basics
DAM, in partnership with the GSX BIC, held the inaugural educational meetup; ‘blockchain: back to basics’. The event was open to all and staff from many local firms from Gibraltar attended including participants from Gibraltar International bank, Deloitte, Hassans, EY and Sovereign, amongst others.
The event focused on providing foundational support for building and developing the blockchain economy in the jurisdiction. Firms throughout the financial sector responded with over 100 attendees arriving at the meetup, resulting in standing room only.
Thomas Johnson, Head of Operations and Sam Buxton, CEO of DAM, gave an in depth presentation focusing on the history and applications surrounding blockchain. Common questions on cryptocurrencies and token sales were addressed, as well as more complex areas such as mining, smart contracts, Dapps and blockchain terminology.
As part of the presentation, Kurt Looyens, Business Development Manager at the Gibraltar Stock Exchange Group presented the roadmap of the GSX Group and its strategic move to leverage blockchain technology in its business plan and the creation of the Gibraltar Blockchain Exchange (GBX).
