Two members of the Gibraltar Defence Police, Christian Hermida and Dina Laoudy, were promoted to the rank of Sergeant at the beginning of October.

A spokesperson said: "Sergeant Christian Hermida joined the Gibraltar Defence Police in October 2001 and has undertaken various roles including Firearms and Marine Section Officer.  He was entrusted with supervising Marine Operations and Logistics, taking charge of the Force’s vessels, ensuring that these were thoroughly maintained and in service.

"He remained in this post for several years until he moved to undertake operational shift duties. During his career Christian has attained Instructor qualifications in First Aid, Personal Safety, Public Order, Sea Survival Equipment Maintainer and recently qualified as a Gym Instructor in order to support the Force’s fitness policy.  Christian is currently responsible for Blue Section as Operational Shift Sergeant.

"Sergeant Dina Laoudy joined the Gibraltar Defence Police in January 2007 and has undertaken various roles including Qualified Firearms and Marine Officer.   Currently responsible for Training and Procurement Department, Dina will soon be assigned to Operational Shift Sergeant for Red Section. During her career, Dina has also attained the Instructor qualification for First Aid and is the lead officer instructor.  She frequently delivers courses not only to MOD employees but also to members of the general public, in collaboration with the St John’s Ambulance Service.

"Dina is the Force’s Equality and Diversity Advisor and has also achieved her accreditation as a Police Search Advisor.  Following accreditation, one of Dina’s first tasks was to organise and implement the policing plan for the inaugural visit of the Royal Navy’s flagship vessel, HMS Queen Elizabeth, to Gibraltar in February this year.

"Superintendent Konrad Chrzanowski, Deputy Chief Police Officer for the Gibraltar Defence Police congratulated both officers on their promotion and wished them the very best in their new roles."
