Dec 05 - HM Customs Implements Operation Comet

HM Customs have announced Operation Comet 2018.

They say they are reminding the public of the obligation to declare on importation, all dutiable goods that have been obtained outside Gibraltar.

A spokesperson for HM Customs said: "The objectives of this exercise are to both safeguard the local economy in the collection of duty on all personal imports and minimising disruption at entry points at this busy time of the year.

"In order to facilitate and expedite clearance procedures, persons travelling abroad, including those on organised trips to Spain, are encouraged to obtain a simplified Personal Declaration Form and present this to a Customs Officer on arrival."

HM Customs have circulated forms to local tour operators and are working with them on the relevant procedures.

Those travelling on a private capacity or on organised trips with operators in Spain can collect forms from Custom House, Waterport, or Four Corners Station.

Alternatively, these can be downloaded from the Government website www.hmcustoms.gov.gi/portal/eForms.jsf. Further information can be obtained on Tel 20046728 / 20078879.

Additional resources will be deployed at the main entry points during the period and failure to declare any goods will result in court proceedings or fines being imposed.
