Raising Awareness Among Spanish Businesses Operating In Gibraltar

Over the past month, the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has been conducting an awareness campaign aimed at Spanish businesses operating in Gibraltar.
A statement from the Government follows below:
This initiative, which highlights crucial information on business licensing and registration, has been delivered across multiple platforms, including digital advertising and the creation of an infographic guide.
The following initiatives making up the campaign have been designed with input from the Chairperson of the Gibraltar Federation of Small Businesses, Owen Smith, and the President of the Chamber of Commerce, John Isola:
1. LED Screen Advertising at the Border:
A short video advertisement was displayed on the LED screen located on the Spanish side of the Gibraltar border. This highly visible advert raised awareness among Spanish businesses.
2. Social Media:
In addition to the physical LED screen advertisement, the same video was promoted on social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, targeting over 10,000 users within a 10km radius of Gibraltar, helping ensure that the message was seen by a broader audience.
3. Infographic Distribution:
A two-page infographic guide, providing clear and accessible information on business licensing requirements in Spanish, was created as part of the campaign. This infographic will be displayed at various entry points into Gibraltar. Additionally, the guide has been shared with Spanish business representative groups via the Chamber of Commerce, further expanding our engagement with the Spanish business community.
Chief Executive Officer of Business and the Office of Fair Trading, John Paul Fa, said: "This campaign has been made possible thanks to the contributions and ideas from our partners at the Chamber and the GFSB. Their support underlines the strong working relationship between Government and these business representative groups. Looking forward, we want to ensure that Spanish businesses have the information they need so they operate in Gibraltar with the right licences and registrations in place.”
Minister for Health, Care and Business, the Hon Gemma Arias-Vasquez, said: “This campaign is a positive signal of our commitment to driving a level playing field among all businesses operating in Gibraltar. That is a drive that is achieved by a combination of awareness and enforcement. Our collaboration with GFSB, the Chamber and HM Customs demonstrates a shared goal of working towards that level playing field that our business community calls out for.”
