Gibraltar Heritage Trust Comments On Northern Defences Management Agreement

Following the recently awarded contract for the management of the Northern Defences, the Gibraltar Heritage Trust says it "looks forward" to meeting with Fortress Attractions Ltd.
A statement from the Gibraltar Heritage Trust follows below:
The recently announced contract for the management of the Northern Defences is a seminal leap forward for this major historic site. The Gibraltar Heritage Trust has been closely linked with the Northern Defences for decades and has lobbied for its heritage significance to be valued and recognised. Although the Trust was not on the tender panel which evaluated the bids for the facilities management contract, it is satisfied on this occasion to know that technical heritage input was given through the Government Archaeologist.
The project as announced promises investment into the site in line with the Master Plan that was passed through the Development and Planning Commission in 2022, which gives a level of comfort. The Trust, as a stakeholder and consultee to that Master Plan, still supports this vision, believing it provides a means of ensuring continuation of the momentum of positive change that is reversing the decades of neglect from which the Northern Defences have suffered.
We look forward to meeting with Fortress Attractions Ltd and the rest of the team to understand further the details of the facilities management proposals. We will continue to work to ensure that this important heritage asset is not only enhanced and protected, but delivers its potential to our community as a first-class, sustainable attraction.
