Key Leadership Change For The Royal Gibraltar Regiment

The Royal Gibraltar Regiment saw a key leadership transition last week, Friday 13th December, as Major John Pitto assumed command, succeeding Lieutenant Colonel Matt Moore.
A statement from British Forces Gibraltar follows below:
Maj Pitto, now promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, has served in the Regiment since 2005, transitioning from a Reservist to a Regular Officer after graduating from Sandhurst in 2008.
Over his career, he has held numerous leadership roles, including Ground Commander during Operation Herrick 15 in Afghanistan, Aide de Camp to two Governors of Gibraltar, and Adjutant.
As a Major, he commanded Headquarter (HQ) Company for two years and led the Rifle Company for another.
Most recently, as Second in Command, he oversaw key Battalion operations, addressed challenges with pay and allowances, and maintained high standards of discipline. His contributions to European Union Exit Strategies and Covid-19 planning earned him an MBE in the Queen’s 2022 Birthday Honours.
Lt Col Matt Moore, the outgoing Commanding Officer, has led the Regiment for two years.
Commissioned into the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment in 2004, he served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Cyprus, holding roles such as Chief of Staff for Kabul Security Forces and SO2 Plans at HQ 1 (UK) Division.
He now moves to his next post as SO1 Warfare at the Land Warfare Centre in Warminster.
The Royal Gibraltar Regiment extends its heartfelt thanks to Lt Col Moore for his exceptional service and leadership and welcomes Lt Col Pitto as the new Commanding Officer with confidence and support.
