Mayor Hosts Clean Up The World 20th Anniversary Reception

Her Worship the Mayor, Ms Carmen Gomez, recently hosted a reception to celebrate 20 years of the Clean up the World campaign.
In her speech, Her Worship emphasised the enduring commitment of Clean up the World’s volunteers: ‘Back in 2012, I was already writing articles on the environment for the Panorama Newspaper; articles that dealt with our waters, and our immediate surroundings. On this note, I recall mentioning with joy and gratitude, a certain Janet Howitt, who was already championing that very important cause; never giving up, despite times of contradiction, and of not finding listening ears. She was never fazed, and has not only persevered, but has managed to inspire a generation of people, both young and old, to protect the place we love, and in so doing, has over time, created an amazing network of people and services from which to draw upon.’
Janet then followed with a few words, thanking all those involved over the years. Minister for the Environment, John Cortes, also gave a short speech of thanks.
The event was a success and enjoyed by over 50 guests, from all sectors, who have contributed to the Clean up the World over the years.
