Call For Papers For Journal Issue Dedicated To Gibraltarian Writing

A call for papers has been published inviting academics and writers to submit original research relating to Gibraltarian writing for a special issue (titled Cutting Across Borders: Contemporary Gibraltarian Writing) of The Grove, a peer-reviewed journal published annually by the University of Jaén.

Guest editors Elena Seoane (University of Vigo) and Cristina Suárez-Gómez (University of the Balearic Islands) are inviting contributors to explore the evolving literary landscape of Gibraltar.

A statement from the editors continued: “As a space marked by complex histories, linguistic hybridity, and transnational influences, Gibraltar offers a unique vantage point from which to examine questions of identity, belonging, and border crossings in contemporary literature, as seen in the novels, short stories, and poems of writers such as M.G. Sanchez, Humbert Hernandez, Giordano Durante, Rebeca Calderon, Trino Cruz and Jonathan Teuma, among others.

“We welcome original research that engages with Llanito/Gibraltarian writing from interdisciplinary perspectives, including but not limited to literary studies, multilingual literature, cultural studies, and postcolonial theory.”

The editors are inviting full-length research articles (5,000–8,000 words including abstracts, keywords, footnotes, and references), and say they look forward to receiving contributions that “expand the critical discourse on Gibraltarian literature and its place within broader global conversations on borders, language, and identity.”
