Royal Gibraltar Regiment Band Holds Open Rehearsal

The Royal Gibraltar Regiment Band held an Open Rehearsal at Grand Battery House On Saturday 22nd March 2025.
A statement from British Forces Gibraltar follows below:
This was a great opportunity to welcome musicians from across Gibraltar of all ages, experience, and ability to work alongside RG musicians. 14 local musicians joined forces with the RG Band to rehearse a varied programme of music from traditional military marches, classical repertoire, popular songs, and film scores, demonstrating the versatility of the ensemble.
The afternoon was a fantastic way to collaborate with local musicians whilst demonstrating the benefits of joining the Band as a Reservist in the Royal Gibraltar Regiment. Members of the Band, including newest member percussionist musician Danny Peach, spoke to the guests about the process of joining, and their experiences whilst serving. This included stories of many musical highlights and overseas tours.
The Bandmaster, WO1 Ben James, rehearsed the combined ensemble that included extra clarinet and cornet players, percussionists and even two ukuleles! The rehearsal was thorough and enjoyable with the Bandmaster going into the fine details of the music. The hard work of all those that attended was showcased during an informal concert at the end of the day. This allowed the family and friends of both the Band and guest musicians an opportunity to listen to what had been rehearsed throughout the afternoon.
The Bandmaster, WO1 James said, “As members of the Armed Forces it is essential that we engage with the community we serve. We are privileged as military musicians to be able to offer opportunities like today. It has been a great pleasure meeting so many enthusiastic musicians, all at different stages of their musical journeys. Music making is a collaborative endeavour, and it is brilliant that we can work together today with members from all corners of Gibraltar’s musical community. It is certainly an event we will look to replicate more routinely – so I look forward to meeting many more local musicians soon!”
