Royal Gibraltar Regiment Successfully Completes Ex JEBEL TARIK

The Royal Gibraltar Regiment has announced the successful completion of its annual training exercise, Ex JEBEL TARIK, which was once again held in Folkestone. Commencing at the beginning of March and spanning six weeks, the exercise provided invaluable training opportunities for the entire battalion, including Infantry Company (I Coy), Headquarters Company (HQ Coy), and Reserve Company (B Coy).
A statement continued: “Ex JEBEL TARIK is a vital component of the Regiment’s annual training calendar, aimed at enhancing operational readiness, tactical proficiency, and unit cohesion. This year, the Regiment made full use of the excellent facilities in Folkestone, including live firing exercises at the Hythe and Lydd ranges. These challenging environments offered ideal conditions for improving marksmanship and conducting combat drills.
“In addition to live firing, the Regiment conducted comprehensive training across various available training areas. This included tactical manoeuvres, discipline drills, and scenario- based exercises designed to refine infantry tactics and support operations under realistic conditions.
“Over the six-week period, the battalion rotated through different phases of the exercise, ensuring that each company gained valuable experience and contributed to the overall success of the Regiment. The deployment in early March set the tone for a well-organised and demanding training camp, which culminated in a highly successful exercise that further enhanced the Regiment’s operational capability."
Major Elvis Pearce, Officer Commanding of the camp, praised the troops, stating:
“I am immensely proud of the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by all ranks throughout Ex JEBEL TARIK. Their efforts in setting up the camp and their unwavering commitment during the exercise were outstanding. This training has not only strengthened our operational readiness but also reinforced the esprit de corps at the heart of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment.”
Lieutenant Colonel John Pitto, Commanding Officer of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment, commented:
“The outstanding work by all involved in Ex JEBEL TARIK underscores the importance of conducting these exercises regularly. They are essential for maintaining our soldiers’ operational effectiveness and ensuring they remain capable and ready to fulfil their duties as infantrymen. Such rigorous training keeps our troops sharp, prepared, and confident to face any challenge—now and in the future.”
The Regiment extends its gratitude to the Folkestone community and to all personnel who supported Ex JEBEL TARIK.
Looking ahead, the Royal Gibraltar Regiment remains committed to maintaining its tradition of rigorous training and operational excellence. The next major training event, Exercise ROCK WARRIOR, is scheduled to take place on the Rock in late November.
