In a ceremony held yesterday at His Majesty’s Naval Base in Gibraltar, the Royal Gibraltar Regiment’s Headquarters Company (Thomson’s Battery) conducted a Royal Gun Salute to mark the second anniversary of the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.

A statement from British Forces Gibraltar follows below:

The Inspecting Officer for the occasion was General Sir Patrick Sanders, KCB, CBE, DSO,  who was formally welcomed as the new Honorary Colonel of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment.  He was accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Francis Brancato, the outgoing Honorary  Colonel.

General Sir Patrick was escorted to the inspection line, where Major Pearce, the Gun  Position Officer (GPO), reported that the gun detachments were present and invited him to  inspect the troops. The salute, executed with ceremonial precision, lasted over three minutes  and was witnessed by officers, invited guests, and members of British Forces Gibraltar.

The appointment of General Sir Patrick Sanders as Honorary Colonel represents a  significant moment in the Regiment’s history. As a former Chief of the General Staff and one  of the British Army’s most senior and respected officers, Sir Patrick brings a wealth of  experience and leadership to the role. His appointment further strengthens the enduring  relationship between Gibraltar and the British Armed Forces.

Lieutenant Colonel John Pitto, Commanding Officer of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment,  welcomed the announcement:

“We are delighted to welcome General Sir Patrick Sanders as our new Honorary Colonel.  His exemplary service and leadership are an inspiration to us all, and we are proud to have  him as part of the Regimental family.”

The Royal Gibraltar Regiment was honoured to commemorate the Coronation anniversary  with such a distinguished guest and remains steadfast in its loyal service to His Majesty the  King.
