GHA Staff Undergo Critical Care Training Course

Staff at the GHA Cath Laboratory participated in a REACT course (Resuscitation Excellence and Critical Care Training) that was carried out at St Bernard’s Hospital for the first time ever.
The Clinical Training was carried out by a team from the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital which consisted of Dr Joseph Mills, Nicola Shurvinton and Angela Hale on behalf of CALS (Cardiac Advanced Life Support) Australia.
The REACT course was organised by Charge Nurse Kaydan Byrne and is intended to equip members of the Cath Lab Team with essential skills to recognise and respond to acutely deteriorating patients. The training combines simulation, clinical scenarios and evidence-based approaches to enhance confidence and competence in emergency situations.
GHA Director General Kevin McGee said: “We are excited to announce the REACT course which was undertaken recently by staff at the Cath Lab. This is another significant step forward in our continuous commitment to high-quality patient care across all areas of the GHA. My congratulations to Kaydan for his great efforts in attracting such a distinguished panel of clinical experts to Gibraltar for the training programme.”
The Minister for Health and Care, Gemma Arias-Vasquez, said: “This is an excellent example of the progress we are making in improving clinical capabilities within the GHA. I am very grateful to the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital team for their expertise. It is important that we continue investing in our staff and their training, ensuring that our clinicians are always equipped with the most up-to-date skills and knowledge to care for our community.”
