Tyrone Buttigieg Beats Colombian Opponent In San Roque

Local boxer Tyrone ‘El Bombero’ Buttigieg beat his Colombian opponent at the Casino Admiral in San Roque on Friday night.

With eight wins (six by K.O.) and only two losses, Tyrone’s opponent, Sergio Villa, had the best pre-fight record of any boxer faced since he turned professional.

“My opponent, who seemed a bit cocky in the build up sending videos saying that he'd KO me and went on to push me in the weigh-in ceremony, proved to be just talk,” says Tyrone.

He continues: “From the opening bell I felt that the guy didn't have the power to hurt me, nor any desire to try to do so. I pressed early on with power shots which were hurting him and, with 30 seconds before the end of the opening round, I landed a clean left hook to the head that put him down and he was counted out.”

Tyrone says he was quite disappointed as he wanted a “tougher, more challenging fight” so he could showcase his talents for longer.

He concluded: “Having said this, it's a good win for my record and now we set our eyes on another big title opportunity after the summer which we hope to confirm sometime September time.”

The event was well attended as usual and counted with the presence of three participants of the local boxing club Ringside, who came home with two wins.
