Unite The Union And Morrisons Reach Agreement On Pay Differentials For Skilled Trades

Unite the Union and Morrisons have reached an agreement to apply the increase in the Gibraltar Minimum Wage, across professional trades roles and Team Leaders within the business, ensuring that wage differentials are maintained for skilled workers and those with supervisory responsibilities.

A statement from Unite the Union follows below:

The agreement follows constructive communications between Unite and Morrisons senior management, aimed at recognising the value of tradespeople and maintaining fairness in pay structures across the company.

Under the new arrangement, all professional trades – including Fishmongers, Butchers, Florist, Bakers, Pharmacy dispensing assistant and Team Leaders will receive a pay rise that reflects the uplift in the Minimum Wage 60p per hour with immediate effect. This ensures that the pay gap between skilled roles and entry-level positions is preserved, acknowledging the training, experience, and responsibility that tradespeople bring to the business.

Unite’s Branch Coordinating official Christian Duo, said: “This is a positive step for our members at Morrisons.  Skilled professionals and team leaders play an important role in keeping supermarket operations running smoothly, and they deserve to be recognised and rewarded accordingly. I would like to thank Morrisons for the steps taken in recognising the importance of maintaining the deferentials and rewarding colleagues appropriately.”

Unite will continue to engage with employers to ensure that as the cost of living rises, wage structures are fair, sustainable, and reflect the real value of workers’ contributions across all sectors.
