Gibraltar Anglers Set Off To Take Part In Shore Angling Championships In Portugal

The Fédération Internationale de la Pêche Sportive - Mer (FIPS-M) is hosting the 41st World Shore Angling Championship (for Seniors) from October 18–25, 2025 at Vila Real de Santo António, Portugal, which includes the beach at Monte Gordo. The beach at Monte Gordo is where the competition is being staged.
In total 21 nations are taking part, and The Gibraltar Federation of Sea Anglers is sending a team representing Gibraltar to this World Championship.
A statement continued: “The anglers who are fishing are Charlie Carreras; Dylan Dalli; Trevor Dalli; Ayoub Ben Hamou; Oscar Sanchez and Christian Dalli (see team photo attached). These are top 6 shore (beach) anglers in Gibraltar. All have participated in international competitions, represented Gibraltar at the highest levels and have achieved excellent results bringing back many medals and trophies. They have punched above their weight against some of the top teams and anglers in Europe.
“The team is ably supported by Captain Jose Afonso; Vice- Captain Francis Dalli; Manager Michael Ballester and Assistants William Snailham and Assil Gharbi. GFSA wishes to single out the Captain, who has instructed and trained these anglers and others in the latest techniques in fishing from beaches.
“In preparation for these World Championships members of the Gibraltar Shore Angling Trip went to Portugal between the 3rd and 7th October and fished from Monte Gordo beach, where the tournament is taking place. This demonstrates the commitment of anglers to practise and familiarise themselves with the venue for the Championships. Fish caught at these sessions included several Gilthead Bream. The best two were landed by Ayoub Ben Hamou and Dylan Dalli (see photos below).”
