This weekend the Special Olympics Gibraltar futsal team will compete in the Special Olympics Andorra 5-a-side Futsal Trophy.

The Special Olympics Gibraltar futsal team is set to compete in the prestigious Special Olympics Andorra 5-a-side Futsal Trophy, taking place from Friday, October 24th, to Sunday, October 26th.

The team departed from Gibraltar early Wednesday morning, traveling via Barcelona, to Ordino, Andorra to face strong contenders from Andorra, Monaco, France, and Portugal. Their first match will be against the hosts on Friday afternoon followed by Monaco Friday evening, and France and Portugal on Saturday. The final phase will be Saturday afternoon to determine awards. 

The talented squad includes athletes Jeremy Prescott, Giovanni Yeo, Gianni Ochello, Sam Hook, Francis Avellano, Niall Balloqui, Pernod McGregor, and Shane Martinez. Three of the players are new to the team and on their first trips away. They will be guided by head coach Brian Fernandez and coach Rafael Celecia, along with athlete coach Lee Guerreiro. They will get some free time in Andorra and an athletes party Saturday evening.

The team were very much looking forward to showcasing their skills and sportsmanship on the international stage. They are expected to return to the Rock on Monday, October 27th.
