A statement from British Forces Gibraltar follows below:
Last weekend, the Royal Gibraltar Regiment (RG) hosted an Insight Weekend at Devil’s Tower Camp, attended by 25 participants eager to experience a taste of military life and explore what it means to serve with the Regiment.
The event began late afternoon on Friday 17th October and concluded after 48-hours on Sunday 19th October, offering a full weekend of activities designed to challenge, inspire, and educate attendees. Participants were accommodated within the camp, with all meals provided throughout the weekend.
Over the three days, attendees took part in a packed schedule that included:
• Physical training sessions, introducing the fundamentals of military fitness.
• Weapon handling and observation lessons, providing hands-on experience with core soldiering skills.
• Camouflage and concealment exercises, giving insight into fieldcraft and tactical awareness.
• Paintball-based room clearance drills, simulating real-world operational teamwork.
• Night vision demonstrations and a night stalk exercise, highlighting the Regiment’s capability and discipline in low-light conditions.
• An introduction to Drill, Signals and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), showcasing specialist trades within the Regiment.
The weekend concluded with a closing address and the presentation of certificates and Commanding Officer’s Coins, recognising the enthusiasm and effort of all those who took part.
The Insight Weekend gave participants a genuine feel for the camaraderie, professionalism, and skill that define the Royal Gibraltar Regiment. It also provided valuable opportunities for personal development, from teamwork and leadership to confidence-building and problem solving.
WO2 Malcolm Head, Recruitment Warrant Officer, of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment, said: “The Insight Weekend is designed to give people a real understanding of life in the
Regiment. It’s about more than military training, it’s about teamwork, self-discipline, and discovering what you’re capable of. We were delighted to see such enthusiasm and commitment from the participants.”
The Royal Gibraltar Regiment plans to continue hosting Insight Weekends in the future as part of its ongoing recruitment and community engagement efforts.
