GHA Marks World Aids Day

Gibraltar Health Authority is today observing World Aids Day and supporting community initiatives to raise awareness of HIV and Aids.
A statement from the GHA follows below:
Gibraltar Health Authority is today once again observing World Aids Day and supporting community initiatives to raise awareness of HIV and Aids.
It is a day that helps the public to better understand how the virus is spread, how it can be prevented, and how advances in medicine have transformed what was once a terminal disease into a chronic ailment.
Anyone at risk from contracting the disease is encouraged to take the test at the Well Person Unit at the Primary Care Centre by booking an appointment on 200 07842.
Acting GHA Director General, Lysandra Debono, said: “The observance of World Aids Day is an important date in the GHA calendar in our efforts to promote community health awareness. There has always been a degree of stigma attached to the disease but this can be overcome with scientific information. World Aids Day is a valuable platform for the dissemination of useful advice and accurate information.”
