Youth Service Organises Trip To Morocco Following Popular Demand

Thirteen Youth Symposium programme participants travelled to Morocco for a meaningful weekend focused on culture, friendship and giving back to the community.

A statement from the Government follows below:

The trip was organised by the Gibraltar Youth Service in response to popular demand from these young people who wished to return to Tangiers and visit the Cheshire Home, a residential centre  supporting individuals with disabilities.

The group had visited the home recently and expressed a genuine desire to return and continue  building on the relationships they had formed. They had previously fundraised to purchase a large  speaker system for the residents, recognising that music, dancing and singing are central to daily  life at the home. On this visit they were able to enjoy music and dancing with the residents.

The weekend away provided the young participants with a chance to deepen friendships, broaden  their cultural understanding and engage in group learning beyond the traditional classroom. These  experiences reinforced the Youth Symposium’s mission of empathy, initiative and community  engagement.

The Youth Service continues to put young people at the centre of the work they do, facilitating  opportunities for personal development, travel and service.

Minister for Equality, Employment, Culture, Tourism and Youth, the Hon Christian Santos GMD  MP, said: “This trip exemplifies what can happen when young people take ownership of their ideas  and turn them into action. This was an opportunity for an educational experience outside of a formal  setting, learning about support, teamwork and giving. My thanks to the Youth Service for  facilitating this initiative.”
