Call for Participation: Llanito Language Survey in Gibraltar

A doctoral researcher from the University of Turku, Finland, is inviting Gibraltar residents to take part in a survey exploring the future of the Llanito language.
María José Gómez Ramos, originally from Tesorillo, is studying the possible disappearance of vocabulary among older generations in the Llanito variant spoken in Gibraltar. The project’s final survey seeks insights from local residents—particularly older speakers—to better understand how the language is used today.
The survey is voluntary, anonymous, and takes only a few minutes to complete. While initial responses through Facebook groups have been encouraging, reaching older residents who may not use social media remains a challenge. Gómez Ramos is asking the community to help spread the word among friends and relatives to ensure a more representative sample.
This research aims to document and preserve Gibraltar’s unique linguistic heritage.
