Local Man Sentenced For Domestic Abuse Offences

A local man has today been sentenced for the offences of Strangulation and Common Assault.
Louis PITTO, 69, of Main Street was sentenced at the Supreme Court to 12 months imprisonment with a suspended sentence of 18 months and a fine of £2,000.
This follows his arrest on the 6th August 2024, and a subsequent investigation by detectives from the RGP’s Safeguarding Team, which led to PITTO being charged and subsequently entering a guilty plea.
This is the first sentencing for the offence of Strangulation in Gibraltar since the enactment of the legislation in 2023, the same year the Domestic Abuse Act came into force. This new legislation provides strengthened powers to respond to and manage domestic abuse.
A statement continued: “The RGP continues to encourage victims and witnesses of domestic abuse to report the matter. This latest outcome demonstrates that the RGP will not tolerate domestic abuse in any form. We are dedicated to safeguarding vulnerable people and will work with partners to reduce harm.
“Our officers and specialist investigators will listen, support, and act to bring perpetrators to justice.
“If you or anyone you know is experiencing any form of Domestic Abuse, please contact the RGP on any of the following:
