Gibraltar Defence Police Attends Workers' Memorial Day Ceremony

Chief of Police John McVea and PC Gary Robertson of the Gibraltar Defence Police attended a ceremony to commemorate Workers’ Memorial Day at The Alameda Gardens.

Chief of Police John McVea and PC Gary Robertson of the Gibraltar Defence Police (GDP) attended a ceremony to commemorate Workers’ Memorial Day held on 29 April 2026 at The Alameda Gardens, presided over by the Chief Minister, The Hon. Fabian Picardo KC MP. They laid a wreath in recognition of the men and women who have served with the Gibraltar Defence Police.
Workers’ Memorial Day, also known as the International Commemoration Day for Dead and Injured, honours those who have lost their lives or suffered disability due to workplace accidents. The day serves to emphasise the largely preventable nature of most workplace incidents and occupational illnesses, while promoting campaigns and union efforts aimed at improving workplace safety. The slogan for the day is: “Remember the dead – Fight for the living.”
