A statement from the Government follows below:
HM Government of Gibraltar met yesterday with representatives of the public sector trade unions (Unite the Union, GGCA and Gibraltar NASUWT) as part of the next round of discussions concerning public sector pay negotiations for 2026.
The meeting was chaired by the Chief Minister, the Hon. Fabian Picardo KC, MP, together with the Minister with responsibility for Industrial Relations, the Hon. Leslie Bruzon MP.
This meeting marked the latest stage in the roadmap of continued discussions between the Government and the unions concerning public sector pay.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged positions in a constructive and positive manner and in good faith. The unions elaborated on their respective positions regarding the shape and scope of public sector pay arrangements for the forthcoming period, while the Government shared its views on what a potential multi-year deal framework could look like.
The discussions also included an exercise aimed at identifying and qualifying the particular thresholds and parameters that could underpin any prospective multi-year agreement. The exchange of positions proved beneficial for both parties and assisted in further progressing the negotiations.
The parties have agreed to meet again in two weeks’ time, with positions continuing to be exchanged through correspondence in the interim.
It is anticipated that the next meeting will assist in settling the key particulars of any prospective multi-year public sector pay agreement.
