World Boxing Endorses the Gibraltar Boxing Association’s Membership Application

Following news late last week it has now been confirmed the Gibraltar Boxing Association’s (GBA) application for membership of World Boxing has been endorsed. This is a massive step forward in the pursuit of full membership.
The Minister for Sport, Leslie Bruzon, is delighted at the news. He said: “Ironically, the news broke whilst I was attending a reception at the Mayor’s parlour to celebrate the King’s Baton relay, one of the important milestones enroute to the 2026 Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow this coming summer. This endorsement now means that the GBA will have the opportunity to hopefully send boxers to the Games, which would be a massive achievement and proof of how far the association and local boxing has come in the last two years.
"Whilst the professional boxing scene is growing and thriving, with more events planned for later this year, amateur boxing is also involved in a resurgence. The current GBA committee have worked very hard in reforming and reconstituting the association. This has now meant that the GBA has been able to re-register with the Gibraltar Sports and Leisure Authority, even boasting an attendance of over 50 members at their last AGM.
"I know first hand that the work is relentless and the endorsement by World Boxing provides many opportunities that can only be positive in the development of a sport that has laid dormant for far too long.
"Well done to all involved!”
