Mar 21 - Care Agency Holds Dignified Care and Responsibility Training Course

care agencyThe Care Agency has recently held a Level 2 Dignified Care and Responsibility Training Course (DCRT).

Two sessions of the course have been delivered for staff from St Bernadette’s Resource Centre and Dr Giraldi Home. The first session was attended by 13 members of staff and the second by 12.

The training, which is valid for 12 months, aims to:

  • Enable all Care Agency staff to anticipate and identify sources of conflict that they may encounter whilst carrying out their duties and to be able to manage and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Provide awareness with regard to current legislation relating to Conflict Resolution Training.
  • Encourage active discussion in relation to de-escalation techniques and positive handling strategies.
  • Provide a practical element, demonstrating high level breakaway techniques, behavioural theories and to conclude with post incident analysis and the importance of recording and reporting.
The course also helps staff to understand the importance of support for both themselves and service users following an incident as well as the importance of identifying trigger events and preventing conflict.
This training is part of the new robust training programme undertaken by the Care Agency. What is most significant is that the training was delivered by Care Agency staff for the first time.
The Care Agency has been investing in training and now six members of staff are qualified to DCRT level 3. Having also undertaken a ‘train the trainer’ course they are qualified to deliver the training themselves up to level 3. In addition, Care Agency staff can now also deliver the annual refresher courses.

Commenting on the matter, the Minister stated ‘The Care Agency has invested in an intensive training programme for all its staff and an exceptionally high volume of training in all disciplines has been undertaken this year. I am particularly proud of the staff who are now trained to a high level and they can in turn deliver training.
