Apr 19 European Association of Airport and Seaport Police
The Royal Gibraltar Police will be hosting the Executive Committee of the European Association of Airport and Seaport Police when they hold their 40th annual conference in Gibraltar next week. The conference will be held at the Caleta Hotel. This is the fourth time that the conference will come to Gibraltar. This year will see the highest number of attending delegates ever.
The EAASP seeks to promote international cooperation and advises European and international policy makers on matters related to posts policing. The Executive Committee works closely with the European Commission and is active in working groups on both the maritime and aviation fields. RGP Commissioner Eddie Yome is currently the Vice-President Aviation.
The theme for the conference is “Challenge, Change and Co-operation” with a number of speakers delivering presentations related to maritime and aviation security during the two day conference. There will also be related workshops which will test delegates across a range of challenging and evolving scenarios in both the maritime and aviation arenas. The underlying aim is to learn from colleagues' experiences which are fundamental to continually raising standards in the way that ports across Europe are policed.
The conference will close with a gala dinner hosted by HM Government of Gibraltar at St Michael’s Cave.
Commissioner Yome expressed his delight in welcoming the conference to Gibraltar, he also pointed out that the hard work expected of and undertaken by members of the association continues to be necessary in the fight against terrorism, which sadly has this past week again come to the fore.
