May 29 - GGR Unveil Diversity Flag Design
Equality Rights Group, the GGR has today unveiled the design for the group’s official diversity flag. A spokesman for the group noted that the design has been worked on for some time. They added, ‘in this important year for the LGB community – and ahead of Gibraltar's first-ever Pride Day, details of which are yet to be announced – we feel it is the appropriate moment to make public the flag which the group will be using henceforth as a symbol of Gibraltarian unity in diversity.’
The flag incorporates the traditional rainbow coloured element, that has long been associated with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual community and signifies diversity across all of society, with Gibraltar’s Castle and key symbol.
The group spokesperson also explained that, ‘in choosing this flag to represent the fundamental values of ERG-GGR in promoting and fighting for equality, human and civil rights for all in Gibraltar without exception, we are pleased to reflect in this design not only diversity in sexual orientation and gender, but also in the many different layers of our society: whether disabled, elderly, immigrant, or on the grounds of race, ethnicity, age and so on.
‘Coming close to Pride Day, it is also with satisfaction that this group formally launches a flag which celebrates not only our pride in Gibraltar but also in the increasingly caring and diverse nature of our people.’
