June 04 - Key2Gib Tourist App Launched with Government Support
Launched yesterday by Minister for Tourism and Consumer Affairs, was Gibraltar’s first tourist app of its kind, developed by Young Enterprise students, Develop I.T. The app is aimed predominantly at the local market as it includes live flight information from the Gibraltar International Airport, live radio streams, and updated bus routes.
The app is currently free and runs on advertising sales and the support of the Gibraltar Tourist Board. At the moment, it is available for all IOS and Android devices but the team is looking into the possibility of developing the app with Windows devices.
The app also includes sections covering ‘where to eat’ and ‘what to do’ within Gibraltar, detailing a selection of tourist hotspots, popular restaurants and other activities available on the Rock.

On the App Store, the application has received a number of raving reviews with users noting that it is extremely handy for individuals planning a trip to Gibraltar. The app also incorporates the crucial social media aspect by allowing for users to connect via Facebook and Twitter.
Commenting on the app, Minister Neil Costa insisted that it is always great to see innovations that help to market Gibraltar to a wider audience. He added, ‘Her Majesty's Government of Gibraltar is a keen supporter of on-line marketing and we are happy to encourage this particular application, born of the Young Enterprise scheme, and the work that this platform will do to help more visitors learn about our marvellous attractions.’
Media and PR Director of Develop I.T Molly McElwee said, ‘we are delighted to have gained this support from the Ministry for Tourism and have great aspirations for the future of Key2Gib. Since its inception as part of the Young Enterprise Scheme, we have worked hard to produce a quality app. Our aim has always been to demonstrate to visitors and locals that Gibraltar is at the cutting edge of technology and is a modern destination, yet, at the same time, so historic and filled with delights that will charm every single visitor. We are confident that our marketing plan at all entry points into Gibraltar will now raise awareness of our product further and help us develop Key2Gib even more.’
