Jul 09 - The Future For Bayside Looks Bright - Says Chief Minister
At a reception held at Grand Battery House yesterday evening to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the opening of Bayside Comprehensive School, the Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, stressed that ‘the future of the school looked very bright indeed.’
'Standards keep going up and up and we are getting better and better,' said Mr Picardo.
Mr Picardo also pointed out that Gibraltar currently had a Chief Minister, a Leader of the Opposition and a Minister for Education who were all educated at Bayside School. He also drew his audience's attention to a recent campaign in the UK called, 'Respect Your Teachers' but he felt that, here on the Rock, there was no need for such a campaign as people in Gibraltar knew the value of teachers.
Around 200 past and present Ministers for Education, Directors of Education, Bayside Head Teachers and teachers attended the reception. The Chief Minister thanked them profusely for ‘everything that they had done.'
A similar event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the opening of Westside School will be held in September.
