Jul 12 - Governor Awards Visiting Scout Group Leaders
As part of the Midlothian Scout Group’s visit to Gibraltar this week, scouts, Kirsty Harrison and Peter Hyde were awarded their Wood Badge by acting Governor, Her Excellency Alison MacMillan. Kirsty completed her leadership training in order to become a Beaver Scout Leader, whilst Peter now qualifies as an Explorer Scout Leader.
The scout group, who hail from Scotland, have spent the past week in Gibraltar touring the Rock and visiting the Gibraltar Sea Scouts at their base.
Speaking at this morning’s presentation, Her Excellency quoted Scout Movement founder, Robert-Baden-Powell who said that ‘a scout smiles and whistles under all circumstances’.
The Wood Badge follows a scouting leadership programme with the aims of helping Scouters to become better leaders through advanced leadership skills and the creation of a bond and commitment to the Scout movement. Following the presentation, the acting Governor was presented with her own Midlothian scout group handkerchief.
