Aug 12 - Improved Accommodation For Ambulance Personnel

The Gibraltar Health Authority has announced that, in keeping with a manifesto commitment to improve conditions for Ambulance personnel, new, expanded accommodation has been provided for the GHA Ambulance team.

The GHA says that, up to last week, a tiny room has been used, day and night, by the staff. These very cramped conditions have long been cause for concern, but, says a spokesperson, “are now a thing of the past.”

Using largely unused space elsewhere on the ground floor, the ambulance team now have much improved facilities, which include a common room, office, kitchen and showers. Further facilities are planned for the future.

The room formerly occupied will now be released for much needed expansion of the Accident & Emergency Department.

Minister for Health, Dr John Cortes commented, "The men and women of the ambulance service needed to be housed in accommodation that was fit for purpose. I am very pleased indeed that we have been able to make such progress, and am grateful to the GHA maintenance team for carrying out this conversion. I'd like to thank the Ambulance team for their patience in having put up with such cramped conditions for so many years. They deserved better, and now they have it. They work hard for the community so it is the least we could do".
