Aug 25 - Local diver rescues "Squirt" the turtle
25 August 2013
A loggerhead turtle was found today by local diver Ian Gadd as he was free diving in the area of Europa reef. The turtle appeared to be disorientated and in some distress and appeared to have sustained minor injuries due to nets.
The animal was brought ashore and after assuring that it was in good condition and that the injuries would not hinder it unduly, it was taken out to sea with the help of the camp bay lifeguard Zodiac and released back into the ocean by its rescuer.
The turtle was named "Squirt" by diver Ian's daughter, after the turtle in the Disney film, Finding Nemo.
