Aug 30 - Araujo Launches Data Collection Service to Calculate Business Loss Resulting From Frontier Queues
La Linea Mayor, Gemma Araujo officially opened a service office aimed at assisting those whose business has been affected by extensive frontier delays caused by the current dispute between Spain and Gibraltar, yesterday.
Traders and business owners will be able to carry out a questionnaire, which will then be raised with authorities. The data collected will form a register allowing for officials to fully understand how badly businesses have been affected by cross border tensions.
The office is located by La Linea’s Chamber of Commerce. Also at the inauguration was the president of La Linea’s Federation for Small Businesses, Lorenzo Pérez- Periáñez, and Deputy Mayor and Councilwomen for Gibraltar Market Relations, Asuncion Barranco.
Europa Sur reports that Sra. Araujo insisted that she has yet to be told why it is that La Linea residents appear to suffer at the forefront of the conflict, despite the fact that they are Spanish citizens.
Commenting on continuing death threats from Twitter trolls, Sra. Barranco insisted that she is trying to defend La Linea and not Gibraltar. She adds that she too wants Gibraltar to be Spanish, but not at the expense of her town.
