Sep 04 - Want To Be A Published Writer? Rock Writers Group Offers Unique Prize

The Rock Writers group, which was formed in 2009 by Carla Acheson, will be organising a short story competition which offers the winner the chance of having his/her work published. Applicants can attend workshops before the competition starts in order to get advice on how to produce their best work.

The workshop will run from 6pm to 9pm on the following dates:

Tuesday 8th October 2013 – 6 to 9pm

Tuesday 15th October 2013 – 6 to 9pm

Those hoping to submit work do not have to attend both these dates. The workshop will take place at the Kiki Lounge Bar in Ocean Village.

The cost of the workshop is £35, which will include all materials and a drink. The fee also covers entry into the 2013 short story competition with chance of international publication.

You will also receive a Certificate of Completion and media coverage at a prize giving function, as well as a complimentary voucher entitling you to a 10% discount on any other future promotions or writing workshops in the future.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Writing workshops are hugely popular worldwide, they are generally run to help individuals learn the art of creative writing and they offer tuition and advice, much like any other workshop. This particular workshop however has been designed to give you assistance and guide you into writing a short fiction story.”

Short Story Competition

The competition details will be announced  after the workshops. Submissions will be judged by Ruth Dugdall, author of Legend Press publishing company who has won prestigious awards for both her psychological thriller titles.

Ruth Dugdall studied English and Theatre Studies at Warwick University and has an MA in Social Work at UEA. She worked as a Probation Officer for almost a decade, working in prisons with numerous high-risk criminals. She has also worked as a Television Host. Ruth’s debut novel The Woman Before Me (published by Legend Press, 2010) was the winner of the CWA Debut Dagger award.

The winner of the short story competition will win a £50 cash prize and a debut Editing and Publishing Services Package Deal which includes the following:

- Direct support with first time digital publication on Amazon Kindle worldwide, (this will include over ten Amazon digital book stores, i.e. Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr and Amazon.co.jp.)

- Professional set up and formatting services to prepare for publication on a digital platform and meeting editorial submission requirements.

- Direct support with producing effective promotional texts and bio.

- A personalised cover design adding that essential visual representation to the story.

- Advice and assistance in using the various promotional tools available to maximise a wider audience.
