Sep 05 Latest RG Recruit Pass Out Has Strong Family Ties
Six new recruits from the Royal Gibraltar Regiment recently passed out at the Infantry Training Centre (ITC) in Catterick.
Pte Attou (18), Pte Barber (18), Pte Drimmie (17), Pte Dunham (18), Pte Makin (20) and Pte Wylie (17) have all successfully completed their 26 week Combat Infantryman Course. All infantry soldiers in the British Army must complete the course which teaches the soldier a number of skills from war-fighting tactics through to ceremonial drill. It is designed to ensure that the newly qualified solider is fully prepared to join their chosen unit and is ready for operational deployment.
Regimental Shepherd CSgt Drimmie said: “All the recruits that passed out worked very hard and produced the required standard to become an Infantry soldier within the RG. The army demands a lot from its soldiers and training is tough, particular in the run up to operations. The recruits have been pushed to their limits and this can take a bit of getting used to. They have all done us proud and maintained the high standards of our unit identity whilst at the ITC.”
For CSgt Drimmie this particular pass out had quite a significant personal sense of pride, his son Pte Drimmie was one of the six soldiers passing out, he said: “My son has always wanted to join the Army since he was 5 years old and has attended nearly every parade the Regiment has taken part in. The feeling of seeing him pass out is unexplainable. It was a very proud day indeed.”
The six new recruits will now head back to Gibraltar and join the Regiment in preparation for their upcoming exercise Jebel Sahara.
