Sep 30 - Youth Clubs At Clean Up The World Campaign
Both the Dolphins Youth Club and the Youth Centre took part in one of Gibraltar’s longest standing and popular community events, ‘Clean up the World 2013’. This year, the combined group tackled the Northern Defences, locally referred to as “The Jungle”.
Young people, together with youth workers, support workers and volunteers, spent the morning gathering litter and rubble from paths as well as in and around a tunnel within the area of Lower Union Gallery. By the end of the morning, a substantial pile of rubbish had been amassed. Amongst other items, the pile consisted of a shopping trolley, bicycles, car wheels and industrial refuse.
For many, it was the first time they had been in this area and all those that participated decided that it would be a good idea to plan a future visit to learn about the local history of the Northern Defences.
The young people had enjoyed working together as part of a team and were all keen from the get-go to become involved with this initiative, demonstrating that they indeed care about the environment.
